Application procedure long-term

As a self-administrated dormitory, we, the residents, also organize the application process ourselves. This task is taken over by the room-allocation board ("Belegungsausschuss" - BA for short), a small group of residents.

Your application will therefore only go to students, such as yourself. A formal cover letter is therefore not necessary, just address us as you would any student.

The application process described here is for long-term rooms only. Information about the application process for a short-term room or a room for exchange students can be found on the respective pages.

The first step for your application for a long-term room is to submit your application documents. You can find the requirements, what we need from you and the most important information about the application on the page about applying for a long-term room.

You will then receive feedback from us in the days following whether your application is complete or whether something is still missing and of course all the necessary information about the further process. Since we are all students ourselves and do this on a voluntary basis in our free time, you cannot always expect an answer immediately, but usually it comes within a few days.

Admission interview

The next step in the application process is the interview. This usually takes place about one month before your desired move-in month (on Saturdays), if you have applied very early it might be two months before. Unfortunately, we cannot always invite all applicants to the interview. In order to keep the interview within reasonable limits and to be able to get to know each applicant, we only invite a certain number of applicants per available room. So if there are a lot of students applying, we will make a pre-selection based on the application letters.

If you have to travel more than 500km on the day of the interview, for example, or if you cannot come for other urgent reasons, you have the option of a so-called remote application. Please let us know as soon as we have told you the preliminary date for the interview. You will then receive all further information from us.

At the interview we want to get to know you and the other applicants. The whole thing takes place in groups of about 15 people. So it's nothing like a classic job interview, but you just have cool and often funny conversations with other students, where you get to know each other and you also get an insight into our dormitory.

Also invited to the admissions interview are floor representatives who have a vacant room. They also lead their group through their floor and want to get to know you applicants in order to find a new floormate. Of course, not all floor join, so there are more free rooms than there are floor representatives.

Room allocation

After the admission interview you will find out if you can move in with us soon. If you get accepted, you have about a week to accept the room. If you don't accept the room, then an applicant will be happy who we could only put on the waiting list for the time being. So be sure to let us know if you don't accept the room.

Finally, you will receive an email from us with your room number at latest one week before your move-in month, afterwards you are free to move in on working days of your move in month.

If the status of your application changes, for example if you are invited for an interview, you will of course receive an e-mail from us. So you don't need to ask, you can rely on us to keep you informed.
