In order to apply for a long-term room, you must be enrolled at a Karlsruhe university, have at least a letter of admission, or be a student at another university completing an internship or thesis in Karlsruhe. In order to meet the application deadline, the certificate can also be submitted later. There is also the obligation to rent a long-term room for at least 6 months. If these requirements do not apply to you, you can try to get a short-term room with us.

Please be aware that you can only rent your accommodation from the beginning of the month, this means the deadline for applications is the 15th one and a half months before the start of your designated move-in month.
(e.g. move-in 1st April, deadline 15th February).

Before you apply, make sure you understand that we are a self-organized student dorm. This means that we, the residents, chose the applicants according to their letter of application and later the personal interview, not by a first come first served principle. The less formal the letter, the better. We just want to be able to guess what kind of floormate you will be and that you're looking for a home, not just a place to sleep in.

Please note: Unfortunately, we currently have no or only a very limited number of rooms available in our new building, the Schroff-Kolleg (K6). So the chances of getting a room there are very slim.

In order to apply for a long-term room you have to submit the following documents via our application portal:

  • a longer informal letter of application (about 1 page A4) in which you tell us a bit more about yourself. Hobbies, interests, expectations of life in HaDiKo, ... whatever you want! - only members of the room allocation board will read this, i.e. a small group of residents and thus students like you - "Dear Sir or Madam" is therefore the wrong address, for example ;)
  • a curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • a recent photo
  • certificate of registration (with matriculation number) from your university
  • if you are doing a thesis or an internship in Karlsruhe, a certificate for it

If you have any questions about applying for a long-term room, check our FAQs first or, if you are still unclear, email our Occupancy Committee at

After your application

After your application, you may be invited to an interview. The interviews take place in groups. In these interviews, we want to get to know you and introduce you to HaDiKo. Usually, these interviews happen to be quite amusing, so you don't have to be afraid.

The date of the admittance interview is fixed. You are not the only applicant who gets invited. The next admittance interview is in the next month.
