Long-term

Requirements

  • The minimum rental period is six months
  • you are a regular student (not a doctoral student!)
    • either enrolled at a university in Karlsruhe
    • or at another university and completing an internship or thesis in Karlsruhe
  • Doctoral candidates/students are excluded from moving in.
  • application deadline is 15th one and a half months before the beginning of your desired move-in month (desired move-in April, application deadline 15th of February)
    • in order to meet this deadline, the certificate of study can be submitted at a later date

Please note: Unfortunately, we currently have no or only a very limited number of rooms available in our new building, the Schroff-Kolleg (K6). So the chances of getting a room there are very slim.

Required documents

For your application, we need all of the following documents by the application deadline:

  • a longer informal letter of application (about 1 page A4) in which you tell us a bit more about yourself. Hobbies, interests, expectations of life in HaDiKo, ... whatever you want! - only members of the room allocation board will read this, i.e. a small group of residents and thus students like you - so don't address us with "Dear Sir or Madam" ;)
  • a curriculum vitae in tabular form
  • a recent photo
  • certificate of registration (with matriculation number) from your university
  • if you are doing a thesis or an internship in Karlsruhe, a certificate for it

If you have any questions about applying for a long-term room, our FAQ will help you. Our application process is described in detail here.

After the application

After all the application have been reviewed you might be invited to our admission interview. This is to get to know you and the other applicants better and to introduce you to HaDiKo. The whole thing takes place in groups and is always quite amusing and relaxed, so anything but a classic job interview - don't worry!

At the admission interview you will also find out whether you will get a room at HaDiKo. The intake interview usually takes place about a month before you move in, if you applied very early it might be two months before.

The date of the interview is fixed and cannot be postponed. You are not the only applicant we invite there.

If you would have to travel more than 500 km on the day of the interview, for example, or if you cannot come for other urgent reasons, you have the option of a so-called remote application. Please let us know as soon as we have told you the preliminary date for the interview. You will then receive all further information from us.
